Magistrate Tijanni Zololo of a Jos Chief Magistrate Court on Monday discharged and acquitted a 31-year-old student, Godwin Paul, accused of poisoning 15 chickens belonging to his neighbour.

Zololo, while discharging Paul, said that the parties in the matter had settled amicably.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Paul of No. 8, Ndagi Farouk Close, Jos, was charged with criminal intimidation and mischief.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Bature Donga, had told the court that one Mr Bobzon Tende of the same address with Paul, reported the matter at the Anglo Jos Police Station on April 11, 2016.

Donga said that Paul had allegedly threatened to kill the complainant following an argument over an unsettled electricity bill by a tenant who had vacated the house.

He further alleged that the accused also fed the complainant’s chickens with poisoned cooked beans leading to the death of 15 chickens, valued at N60,000.

Donga said that during police investigation, the accused confessed to committing the crime, hence running contrary to Sections 397 and 329 of the Penal Code.
