Doctors separate conjoined twins in ATBUTH

The successful surgery is part of a free medical outreach in the state.

According to Iliya Habila, the Senior Special Assistant on Media to Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, the successful operation took place at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH).

He also disclosed that the ongoing outreach, which is sponsored by the Speaker, will run for one week.

15,000 people to benefit from outreach

In a Facebook post he shared about the programme which began on Monday, Habila also revealed that about 15,000 patients are expected to benefit from the outreach.

Doctors will conduct outpatient consultations and medical check-up with drugs, ultrasound scan, reading glasses and cataract operations.

Laboratory tests will also be conducted for diseases such as diabetes, hepatitis, HIV/AIDS, while public health education on malaria, hygiene, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS and Lassa fever will also be held.

Like the operation on the conjoined twins, beneficiaries of the outreach will also have access to free general and gynaecological surgeries.
