Prof. Abigail Ogwezzy-Ndisika, a don at the University of Lagos, on Thursday advocated for the use of the new media to enhance citizens’ involvement in programme planning and implementation.

Ogwezzy-Ndisika made the call at a retreat to fashion out new strategies in the management and dissemination of information on Federal Government’s programmes and activities to Nigerians.

Ogwezzy-Ndisika, who presented a paper entitled `` Perspectives on Effectively Communicating Government Programmes at the Grassroots: Dimensions in the Use of Social and Traditional Media’’, advised the government to re-tool its media.

She advised that the Federal Government should re-equip its media through the use modern Information Communication Technology (ICT), to curb false and fabricated reports in the social and traditional media.

According to her, new media offer a wide range of opportunities for citizens’ involvement in a new world of participatory approach to programming.
