President condemns Adamawa suicide bomb attack that killed over 50

The president condoled with families of the several victims as well as the people and government of the state.

In a terrorist attack, which police have reported to have been carried out by a teenage suicide bomber, on a mosque in Mubi, Adamawa on Tuesday, November 21, 2017, over 50 lives were lost with many others injured.

A press statement signed by President Buhari's Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, described the attack as "very cruel and dastardly".

The president condoled with families of the several victims as well as the people and government of the state, while also assuring them that everything required to secure the state from the deadly menace of terrorist group, Boko Haram, will be done.

The statement read, "The President enjoined the people in the entire North-east to be more vigilant and report suspicious persons to security agencies in order to avert further attacks on soft targets by the terrorist group."

The president has also ordered the deployment of more police officers to combat the scourge of unknown gunmen terrorising the state.

Shehu's statement read, "President Buhari has also directed the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to deploy more police personnel to prevent further attacks by armed bandits in Zamfara State.

"Noting the current moves by the IGP to review police personnel and strategy in the state, the President directed him to visit the state and report back his findings about the deadly attacks.

"The directives followed recent killings and wanton destruction carried out by unknown gunmen on communities in Shinkafi and Maradun Local Government Areas of the state.

"President Buhari prayed that God would console the bereaved families in the Adamawa and Zamfara incidents, heal the injured, and grant rest to the souls of the departed."

Boko Haram menace

Since the insurgency of the terrorist group escalated after a 2009 crackdown by the military, Boko Haram, chiefly under the leadership of Abubakar Shekau, has been responsible for the death of over 20,000 people and the displacement of more than 2.5 million scattered across Internally Displaced Person (IDP) camps across the country and its neighbours.

After a massive military operation resulted in the displacement of the group from its primary base in the infamous Sambisa Forest, it has resulted to suicide bomb attacks on soft targets and carried out daring attacks on military bases, with hundreds of captives still unaccounted for.
