Scores of terrorists flee Borno villages - Army

The Nigeria Army has said that scores of Boko Haram fighters on Sunday fled Nafari and Gonin Kurmi in Borno, following a sustained offensive by troops advancing towards the area.

A statement by the acting Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, said in Abuja on Monday that the fleeing terrorists abandoned items like food and clothing materials, among others, as they deserted the locations.

Usman said that troops of 7 Division, Nigerain Army, in Borno had closed in on the enclave of the terrorists in the area as part of efforts to eliminate their hideouts in the North East.

"This is to report that Nigerian troops are gradually clearing all known camps, enclaves and dens of Boko Haram terrorists, especially in the North Eastern part of our country.

"It is as a result of the continued offensives against the terrorists by advancing troops that Boko Haram terrorists fled and abandoned their locations at Nafari and Gonin Kurmi.

According to the statement, the noose is tightening around the terrorists and troops will continue the momentum until all terrorists and their camps are no more in any part of Nigeria.

The statement called on citizens to continue co-operating with security agencies through provision of timely and credible information about any known terrorists, their hideouts and collaborators.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), recalls that the Nigeria Army had, in the past weeks, made progress in the ongoing counter-insurgency operation in the North East, resulting in the recapture of locations previously held by the insurgents.
