President Barack Obama is making good his promise to help Nigeria in combating terror group, Boko Haram as 300 US troops and surveillance drones are set to be deployed to Cameroon to counter the terrorists.

According to US officials on Wednesday, October 14, a front force of 90 American army personnel has arrived in Cameroon already.

It was gathered that the troops will be organising airborne intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance operations, and they would be armed for their own protection.

“These forces are equipped with weapons for the purpose of providing their own force protection and security, and they will remain in Cameroon until their support is no longer needed,” Obama said.

The officials said the soldiers will first be deployed to  Garoua city in northern Cameroon, close to Nigerian border, adding that the force will comprise Predator drones for surveillance.

Cameroon has been fighting Boko Haram insurgents based in the neighbouring Nigeria. The sect has pledged to revenge against Cameroon for supporting the Nigerian military’s mission to crush Boko Haram.
