Top 5 Nigerian TV, web series of the year

From comedy to drama, 2016 was a rather entertaining year on television.

One thing that really stood out this year was the takeover of political dramas.

Pulse Movies has rounded up 2016’s best TV and web series for the year, here's the list below:

"This is it"

Lowla Dee gave us something to look forward to with her romantic drama web series "This is It".

Starring Kenyan actor Nick Mutuma (who plays Tomide) and Nigerian actress, Dede (played by Chiagoziem Nwakanma), the first season focuses on the first six months of their marriage.

"This is It" follows the first year journey of the young clueless newlyweds Dede and Tomide, how they adjust living together, dealing with friends and a little drama.

"Hush"

Hush” saw the return of Richard Mofe-Damijo to TV.

A tale of fashion, politics and ambition which follows different members of high society as they collide, the story of "Hush" revolves around Bem (played by RMD) and Arinola (by Thelma Okoduwa), power-players in fashion and politics respectively.

It explores the precarious and delicate weaving between seemingly disparate worlds which co-exist in Lagos by following the lives of Bem's family and the people who work for him. The telenovela series also stars Olu Jacobs, Baj Adebule, Rotimi Adelegan, Meg Otanwa amongst others.

The suspense at every corner of the series had viewers tuning in daily for more.

"Sons of the Caliphate"

From politics to romance to culture, the first season of “Sons of the Caliphate” is brilliant!

"Sons of The Caliphate" is a political drama set in the North of Nigeria about three rich, entitled and ambitious young men all caught up in the lust for power, addiction, love and desire, as well as the obligations of family loyalty and the craving for revenge in the deadly tussle for the governorship seat of the Northern Caliphate State.

"Sons of The Caliphate" stars Patrick Doyle, Mofe Duncan, Sani Muazu, and Rahama Sadau.

The Governor” was unique. A woman at the forefront of a political battle? This political drama by EbonyLife TV has been just delightful to watch.

The Governor" is the riveting tale of Angela Ochello, the Deputy Governor of Savannah State, who with no governorship ambitions finds herself suddenly entangled in a web of political intrigue after the untimely death of the incumbent Governor.

As audiences embark on this journey with Angela, they get to see how with the help of her trusted Chief of Staff, she learns how to maneuver through the rough and shark-infested waters of politics whilst balancing the demands of her matrimonial home.

“Skinny Girl in Transit”

Following the success of its first season, 2016 saw Tiwa, Mama Tiwa and Shalewa return in two very welcomed seasons of “Skinny Girl in Transit”.

The show which revolves around an OAP Tiwa on a weight loss journey, and a journey to finding love, stars Ngozi Nwosu, and Abimbola Craig as Tiwa.

Season two and three also stars Project Fame Winner, Ayoola, Bisola Aiyeola, Sharon Ooja and Ini Dima-Okojie.
