Actress becomes 1st woman to win comedic genius award

During her acceptance speech at MTV Movie Awards 2016, she humbly thanked comedic legends like Carol Burnett, Gilda Radner and Lucille Ball for paving the way for her in Hollywood.

The 45-year-old actress won the coveted 'Comedic Genius Award' at the MTV Movie Awards on April 10 and made sure to use her platform for some good.

Thanks to movies like, "Gilmore Girls", "Samantha Who?", "Private Practice" and "Mike & Molly", Melissa has made us laugh and totally deserves her big win

"I may be the first woman to receive this award," she said. "But I am certainly not the first one to deserve it. I think I’m a walking human patchwork of all the remarkable funny women who I’ve loved and studied over the years. And I am only here because and my mom, who taught me not to fear being the butt of a joke and taught me not to worry about being likeable or perfect and to lovingly go for the kill!”

Melissa concluded her speech with:  "Who knew Bruce Springsteen could get even cooler?"
