4 things you didn't know about this A-list Comedian

Ayo Makun turns 36 today.

 

Today, Wednesday, August 19, is the birthday of Ayo Makun, aka AY, the Comedian, MC, Actor, Director, Producer, and incredible Enterpreneur.

There are a few things we know about AY, like his regularly sold out comedy show, AY LIVE, but here are a few other things you didn't know about the 36-year-old.

1. He is from Ondo State:

Contrary to popular opinion, Ayo Makun is not an indigene of Delta State, although he was born and bred there. His upbringing probably influenced him into finding his funny bone, considering a huge chunk of comedians in Nigeria have links with Delta State, especially Warri.

2. It took him nine years to graduate from University:

Ayo graduated from Delta State University after a whopping 9 years. But even at the time of graduating, he already made a mark among his friends as a comedian and entertainer.

3. He used to be a P.A to Ali Baba:

Generally seen as the Godfather of Nigerian Comedy, Ali Baba employed AY as a Personal Assistant and Event Manager. The skills Ayo acquired working for his former employer was probably what shaped his approach to the comedy industry.

4. He is a Godfather in the making

With his popular event, Open MIC Live, AY was able to harvest fresh talent  fresh talents for the comedy industry. Popular acts like Seyilaw and Akpororo were shot into the limelight after winning AY's Open Mic event. Actions like these are only bound to create a growing number of loyalists for him, and in the near future, its possible that we'll soon begin to see AY being referred to as a 'Godfather' of Comedy.
