Crisis deepens as aggrieved members plan separate convention

Aggrieved members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have vowed to organize a separate convention due to the crisis rocking the party over plans to prolong the tenure of Chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff.

The PDP’s convention is set to hold on May 21 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State but a faction of the party is planning another convention to hold in Abuja on the same date, Punch reports.

“When I told you that we were planning our convention, some of you thought we were joking. We just appointed some coordinators now. Before the end of the week, I think by Thursday, we would address a press conference to announce all the state coordinators,” a source, said to be a former governor, told Punch.

“Whatever Sheriff and his co-jesters are doing would soon become a nullity and I can tell you that illegality would soon jam illegality,” the source added.

The PDP has been in disarray since the zoning of the party’s chairmanship to the North-East.
