‘I’m not supporting any candidate for Senate Presidency,’ President-elect says

Buhari further expressed his willingness to work with whoever emerges Senate President regardless of his or her state of origin.

President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari has denied reports that he has a preferred candidate for the Senate Presidency.

The President-elect made the comments on Wednesday, May 13, 2015, via a statement released by his media aide, Garba Shehu.

The statement reads:

“I am prepared to work with any leader that the House or Senate selects. It doesn’t matter who the person is or where he or she is from.”

“There is due process for the selection of leaders of the National Assembly, and I will not interfere in that process.”

“My administration does not intend to repeat the same mistakes made by previous governments. Nigeria has indeed entered a new dispensation.”

Meanwhile, 65 Senators have expressed their support for former Kwara State Governor, Bukola Saraki to emerge as the Senate Leader.
