SIEC pledges to conduct credible council polls

The Executive Chairman of the commission disclosed this at the opening session of a two-day training workshop.

The Executive Chairman of the commission, Dr Philip Duwe, disclosed this at the opening session of a two-day training workshop for personnel of the commission and other relevant stakeholders.

Duwe said the commission was determined to conduct a free, fair and credible election that would be acceptable by all.

"If you win, you win and if you lose, you lose, that is the type of election we are preparing and determined to conduct," he said.

He urged politicians to desist from any form of violence before, during and after the election.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Yakubu Babas, who presented a paper on 'Security and Credible Elections at the Local Government Level', noted that corruption and vices were the major problems that marred the conduct of credible elections.

Babas, who was represented by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr Alabi Abiodun, assured the commission that the police would collaborate with other security operatives in the state to ensure peaceful conduct of the election.
