INEC Commissioner testifies at Tribunal, says election was peaceful

Iyimoga stated this while testifying before the Rivers State Governorship Election Tribunal. His testimony reaffirms the statement of previous witnesses.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike

A former National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Dr. Christopher Iyimoga, has told the Rivers State Governorship Election Tribunal sitting in Abuja that governorship poll in the state was not marred by violence.

The former Commissioner said the three National Commissioners who monitored the election did not report any cases of ballot box snatching, hijacking of electoral materials, or any form of violence.

Counsel to the petitioner Akin Olujimi (SAN) has insisted the election was marred by violence and poor voter turnout. He disapproved of the witnesses' claims.

However, the Rivers state Governor Nyesom Wike had maintained that the election was held under a peaceful atmosphere, devoid of any form of electoral violence.
