President visits Borno, promises end to Boko Haram [PHOTOS]

President Goodluck Jonathan is said to have visited troops in the state as well as a camp for Internally Displaced Persons.

President Goodluck Jonathan, today, January 15, paid a visit to Maiduguri, Borno State.

The president reportedly gave assurances that the insecurity plaguing the country would soon come to an end and that all captured territories would be recovered.

“Let me assure you that we will soon take over all the areas. From the briefings I have received from the service chiefs, I assure you we will take over the towns and communities,” Jonathan said.

“The Nigerian military is now better off in term of equipment than it was in the past. We will continue to do our best to ensure the armed forces are better equipped,” the president added.

He also praised the soldiers for their dedication in the fight against terrorism.

“What you’re doing is not easy. We thank you as a nation. Terrorism is a global phenomenon. We’re working day and night, trying to curtail this madness. We will assist you to succeed in your effort. We will give you what is due to you. Government will make sure you get it. We appreciate your dutiful service, loyalty and commitment,” Jonathan said.

The president had on Wednesday, commissioned a cenotaph in honour of Nigeria’s fallen soldiers at the National Military Cemetery in Abuja.
