Speaking during the executive session of the Senate on Tuesday, July 19, 2016, Senator Melaye said he will not apologize to Mrs Tinubu.

Senators Dino Melaye and Remi Tinubu

Dino Melaye is probably the most popular lawmaker  in Nigeria right now.

The lawmaker allegedly threatened to beat up and impregnate Mrs Oluremi Tinubu, the wife of the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday, July 12, 2016.

His comment triggered reactions from Nigerians with most people calling for an open apology from the Kogi West lawmaker to Mrs Tinubu.

The senate urged Melaye to apologise to Mrs Tinubu in the spirit camaraderie, but he refused to do so saying; “great minds don’t dwell on issues; they act and  move on. Theobject of my dander has already arrived menopause," he added.

Melaye also accused Senator Tinubu of paying N75 million to unknown persons to launch a protest against him on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 in Abuja.

Meanwhile, some members of the Women Concern Group held a protest in Lagos on Monday, July 18, against Mr Melaye over his comment on Mrs Tinubu.

Later same day, Mrs Tinubu petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris to request for police protection from Senator Melaye who she referred to as "threat" to her life.
