President, Taraba Governor in closed-door meeting

Ishaku has headed to the Appeal Court to contest the tribunal judgement.

Gov. Darius Ishaku of Taraba state.

Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku, was on Friday, Nov. 20, in a close-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

When questioned by State House correspondents on the nature of his meeting with the President, Ishaku said it was about the security situation in the state, noting that he was at the Villa to brief Buhari.

"So far, we thank God everywhere is calm. There is peace everywhere and I came to update him (Buhari) to let him know we are doing our best to keep the state in a peaceful atmosphere", Ishaku said.

Pulse recalls that the state's Governorship Election Petition Tribunal led by Justice Musa Danladi Abubakar had sacked the PDP Governor on Nov. 7, and declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Aisha Jumai Alhassan winner of the April 11 gubernatorial poll in the state.

The Tribunal had ordered that Alhassan be sworn-in with immediate effect, stating that there was no valid candidate from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that contested the election.

Ishaku has since headed to the Appeal Court to contest the tribunal judgement.

However, Buhari has appointed and sworn-in Alhassan as the Minister for Women Affairs. It is not clear if she would maintain the portfolio if the appeal court verdict is in her favour.
