Senate screens ministerial nominees on October 13, 2015

The Nigerian Senate will only screen three of President Muhammadu Buhari’s ministerial nominees today as against the eight initially scheduled.

The three nominees who will be screened are:

  • Barrister Adebayo Shittu (Oyo)
  • Claudius Omoleye Daramola (Ondo)
  • Khadija Abba Ibrahim (Yobe)

Former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi was scheduled to be screened today but will now be screened tomorrow, according to Senator Dino Melaye, who's the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Publicity.

Amaechi was originally meant to be screened by the legislators on Wednesday, 14, along with nine other nominees.

His appearance was however postponed due to the inability of the Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions to submit its report on a petition against him.

Amaechi’s nomination was challenged by three Senators from his state who cited the allegations of corruption levelled against him.

The Senate committee however decided that the charges couldn’t serve as grounds to prevent his confirmation as minister as the case was still pending in court.
