Ex-Governor’s confirmation is a formal approval of corruption - Rivers PDP

The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) made the comment via a statement released by its Chairman, Felix Obuah.

Former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi arrives at National Assembly for ministerial screening on October 22, 2015

The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that the Senate’s confirmation of former Governor, Rotimi Amaechi as a minister is an approval of corruption.

The Rivers PDP made the comment via a statement released by its Chairman, Felix Obuah.

The statement reads in part:

“While we look to the end of the APC-led federal government which has started on precarious feet of falsehood and deceit, we can only say that the end can never contradict its means which in this case, is suspect.”

“Our regret is the APC’s disservice and disappointment to the entire Nigerians whose hope of getting a better alternative government from the Buhari administration and 8th Senate has been dashed.”

“It’s an illusion to think that Amaechi and his like as ministers would perform anything different from what they did while they served in all other capacities.”

Amaechi was confirmed by the Senate on October 29, 2015, despite protests from members of the PDP in the legislative chamber.

The former governor’s screening and confirmation was surrounded by controversy due to a petition raised against him by PDP Senators from his state citing allegations of corruption levelled against him.

Senator members of the PDP staged a walk out after Amaechi was confirmed to register their disapproval of the decision.

The Senate has confirmed all of President Muhammadu Buhari’s 36 ministerial nominees but they are yet to be sworn in.
