Winners who stop winning are losers

Winners

Last night I remembered Okiemute, the girl who won the last MTN project fame with her electrifying performance on the grand finale.

I remember sitting there in a fast food looking at the TV as my ice cream melted away for lack of attention. That evening, I cried watching her win. Especially when her mother ran up to the stage hugging her and kissing her. It was emotional for me.

I rooted for her because of the voice and the swagger that hovered around her during the project fame thingy.

In all honesty, I began looking out for the girl – searched for her on almost all the social media platforms and followed her.

Its months now and I haven’t heard a hiccup from her. No cover, no single, no dating! Nothing from her.

I’m particularly heartbroken because I feel I have wasted my time believing in her. If I channeled the belief I had in her to this administration, some agitations would fizzle out.

I went on my Facebook and asked of her whereabouts and why she carried the prize money and the Suv just to driver herself to oblivion and off society’s eye. Responses were coming in and there wasn’t a singular one that satisfied me.

I grew angry and remembered something I wrote years ago; “ Maintaining success is more difficult than attaining it” I went further to say that people who couldn’t keep up with the tempo of success weren’t cut out for success actually.

Winners who stop winning should consider themselves successful failures.

The big brother Nigeria show ended months ago. People believed in Efe for reasons I’m yet to decipher. All through the show, he said he was a rapper. I lurked and lurked until I caught him rapping outside the garden and I shook my head in dire confusion. What rapper? Woman wrapper? Oh well.

After he won the SUV and 25 million, he rushed out and released a nursery rhyme for Nigerians who wasted their airtime and precious time. That was his thank you to his ‘fans’.

My friend buzzed me while I was in Abuja sounding pained. I asked her what the problem was. She said Efe dropped a single. I asked her to send on Whatsapp. She did.

After I tried to listen through the first minute I stopped and called her. I said; “Based on logistics, this single doesn’t make a single sense to me”.

We laughed it off but it pains me inside my chest all the time I remember people who became celebrities for two years and the third year they become upcoming artists all over again.

Look at May D, Sky B, Shaydee… name them! They are legion

Winners shouldn’t relent. Winning becomes a way of life if you are serious to stay wining.

Look at the likes of Chidinma Kedike who went for the project fame. She has only one hit song for over half a decade. After the track ‘Kedike’, I haven’t heard anything from her that resembles a hit.

This is actually pathetic.

You climb many rungs in the ladder of success and when you get to the top you let go of your balance and start taking selfies with the hand that is a support system to you. Next, you slip. The person behind you climbing may decide to hold you up and feature you in a track to resuscitate you a bit or the person may decide to help kick you back to the ground and you become an upcoming again.

Ask Samklef and his friends.

Ice prince is gradually melting away because of the heat in the industry. After Oleku blocked his ice very well, no subsequent song has giving him such ice like that. He is dwindling. He will melt away if he doesn’t respect himself.

The list is endless. This cuts across your area of concentration in life.

Try to keep up with the tempo you had earlier set for yourself.

Win!
