United Labour Congress calls off strike

Workers have been asked to resume immediately while the agreement with the government is finalised.

This was disclosed by the union's president, Comrade Joe Ajaero on Wednesday, September 20, 2017.

He revealed that the suspension is as a result of successful talks with the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, who led the Federal Government's team.

Ajaero compelled petroleum workers to resume work immediately while the agreement with the government is finalised by the union's leadershiip.

Affiliate unions under the ULC involved in the strike are the National Union Of Petroleum & Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), National Electricity Employees Union (NEEU), National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions Employees (NUBIFIE), andtelecommunication unions.

The congress is pressing the government to set up a task force to carry out factory inspections and review the privatisation of Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).

They also asked that the soldiers and police officers should leave their different work places as they were intimidating and harassing workers in such establishments.
