Vice President says 'NO to grand wedding' for daughter

Osinbajo's preference of a small ceremony is believed to be because of the criticisms which trailed the wedding of Ajimobi and Ganjuge's children over the weekend.

The bride-to-be, Damilola will on March 17, 2018, tie the knot with Oluseun Bakare, a pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God and son of Bola Shagaya, a businesswoman and celebrity.

Osinbajo's preference of a 'small' ceremony is believed to be because of the criticisms which trailed the wedding of the children of the governors of Kano and Oyo states on Saturday, March 5.

President Muhammadu Buhari, 22 state governors, and hundreds of other dignitaries attended the wedding which critics said was the height of insensitivity given the killings going on the country and the recent kidnap of 110 schoolgirls in Dapchi, Yobe State.

The Vice-President is said to be concerned about the "mood of the nation" and has refused to bow to the pressures of doing a "grand wedding" for his daughter.

"Left to the VP and his wife, it would have been the smallest and simplest of ceremonies, taking place in their backyard, especially given the current mood of the nation," a family source told The Cable.

"Nonetheless the VP seems to be swiming against a rather strong tide. For instance the VP’s position compels him to inform and invite dignitaries, many of who will cry blue murder if left out of the invitations.

"But for a man known for his unassuming nature and humble mien, these circumstances have invited the dilemma of how to moderate the occasion and balance out the wedding outlook considering the current mood of the nation," the source was further quoted as saying.

The Vice President is said to have concluded on having the whole ceremony,  except the church service, done within the state house.

According to the source, the move is to  limit the crowd and "ensure that the event is not blown out of proportion."

It was gathered that Osinbajo is also strict with the sharing of the invitation cards as a measure to cut down the number of guests.
