Senate again refuses to confirm acting EFCC Chairman

The Senate explained that Magu was rejected because a majority of senators voted against his nomination.

Ibrahim Magu

The upper legislative chamber reached the decision on Wednesday, March 15, after screening Magu

“Ibrahim Magu's nomination and confirmation as Chairman @officialEFCC has been rejected by majority of Senators,” the Senate Twitter handle said.

Magu’s confirmation suffered a setback due to a fresh letter sent on Tuesday, March 14, by the Department of State Services (DSS) questioning his integrity.

The letter from the DSS, which was read by Senator Dino Melaye, referred the Senate to a previous report sent on Magu in December 2016 in which he was accused of corruption.

The report had caused the Senate to reject Magu's nomination and refer same to President Muhammadu Buhari for further action.

Magu was screened on Wednesday after being renominated by Buhari in January 2017.

He has served as acting Chairman of the EFCC since November 2015 when he was appointed by Buhari.
