Nigerian man arrested with N1bn cash

The suspect was arrested at the Diori Hamani Airport in Niamey, the capital of Niger while on his way to Dubai.

Police in Niger Republic have reportedly arrested a Nigerian who was found to be carrying 4.6m Euros (N1.05bn) in cash.

The suspect was arrested at the Diori Hamani Airport in Niamey while on his way to Dubai, Punch reports.

The Nigerien police believe that the man was escaping with the cash in order to avoid the current anti-corruption war being spearheaded by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The security agents also said that there had been an increase in money laundering by Nigerians through Niger in recent times.

Nigerien media reports have it that Nigerian authorities had requested the return of the money but the said request was ‘denounced’ by the neighbouring country’s National Union of Customs Officers.
