UNICAL resident doctors resume duty after 3 months strike

A protest planned by the doctors and health workers at the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Yaba, Lagos, on Monday failed to hold.

A News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Correspondent who visited the hospital reports that there was heavy presence of policemen at the main gate of the hospital.

The workers, under the aegis of Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU), had planned to stage a rally to drive home their grievances at the hospital.

They had, in August, embarked on an indefinite strike, demanding for a change of leadership of the hospital.

NAN correspondent, who was at the hospital, learnt that the union leaders were in a crucial meeting with the hospital authorities toward resolving the impasse.

When contacted, Mr Uzondu Eke, the JOHESU chairman in the hospital, confirmed to NAN that the union leaders were in a meeting with the management.

Dr Rahman Lawal, the Medical Director of the hospital, also told NAN that he was in a management meeting with the workers.

Lawal said he would not be able to speak further on the issue for now.

"I cannot talk to the press now," he told NAN.
