Boko Haram killed 85 people in weekend attack

He said 75 bodies were brought into the hospitals, while 10 others were been buried yesterday, Sunday, January 31.

The Borno State Commissioner for health, Haruna Mshelia, has put the death of of weekend Boko Haram attack in Maiduguri at 85.

He disclosed this while updating the state deputy governor and a military commander on the attack which occurred on Saturday, February 6, in Dalori, about 12 kilometres (seven miles) from Maiduguri, the state capital.

“A total of 65 bodies were deposited at the specialist hospital, 10 others are being deposited at UMTH (another hospital), while another 10 were buried yesterday evening at the Dalori community cemetery", Mshelia said. According to him, 16 villagers were unaccounted for.

Bulama Malum, an eyewitness said he saw more than 20 bodies burnt beyond recognition and that 15 villagers were missing.

Other residents and an unidentified aid worker on Sunday said that about 50 people were killed in the attack.

Speaking to AFP, a member of the civilian joint task force, Musa Adamu, said over 100 people were killed in the attack.

“Even as at last night the people that died were over 100. I am sure many could have died today. Anybody that tells you that the figure is less than 100 is just not saying the truth,” Adamu said.

The attack came when thousands of internally-displaced people are returning to their home towns. The Borno state government it planned to return some 50,000 displaced people to their villages in the next couple of days.
