Tor Tiv, Alfred Akawe Torkula dies at 71

Torkula, who was the Tor Tiv and the chairman of the Benue Traditional Council, passed away on Monday, November 23, 2015, at the age of 71.

The Paramount Ruler of the Tiv tribe of Benue State, Alfred Akawe Torkula, is dead.

Torkula, who was the Tor Tiv and the chairman of the Benue Traditional Council, passed away on Monday, November 23, 2015, at the age of 71, The Guardian reports.

He was crowned in April 1991 and had spent 24 years on the throne before his death.

News of his death was confirmed by Benue Governor, Samuel Ortom to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday, November 24.

Burial arrangements for the late monarch will be announced later.
