Gunmen have kidnapped the sister of a member of the House of Representatives representing Southern Ijaw Federal Constituency, Bayelsa State, Henry Offongo.

Punch reports that six men entered the community with speedboats and took away the young lady after beating up her husband.

The  Bayelsa state Police Public Relations Officer,  Asinim Butswat, confirmed the incident saying "We are aware of the abduction and three suspects have been arrested in connection with the abduction.

“I would not like to mention their names because investigation is still ongoing.”

Bayelsa state has been the centre of many high profile kidnapping incidents recently.

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers, abducted 72-year-old Inegite Jonathan, an uncle to former President Goodluck Jonathan, recently.

The Cross River state Governor, Ben Ayade was one of the first Governors to pass an anti-kidnapping bill into law.

The law stipulates a death penalty for anyone found guilty of kidnapping in the state.
