Wole Soyinka condemns plans to establish cattle colonies

The Nobel laureate frowned at the Federal Government for doing nothing to stop the killings by Fulani herdsmen.

According to Daily Post, Soyinka said that “ranching is the preferred option to resolve the crisis.”

He also revealed that a group known as the Ogun State Hunters Association (OSHA) has been put in place to protect the residents of the state.

Soyinka said “The important thing is the consciousness of a need for organised resistance against the incursion of cows.

“In Ogun State, we have formed a sort of informal organisation called OSHA, Ogun State Hunters Association and we intend to collaborate with similar movements, the police and the military,”

“I wish to commend the governors in the various organisation which are now beginning to understand that they must start policing themselves.

“If we want to take the phenomenon seriously, it will be to ensure that anytime they see an armed herdsman, they report to the nearest police station. If by a certain time that group of armed herdsmen are not disarmed, then this organisation will move and disarm them,” he added.

In January 2018, the National Vice President of Miyetti Allah Cattle Herders Association (MACBAN), Husaini Yusuf Bosso told newsmen that more blood will be spilled in Benue state if the anti-grazing law is not scrapped.

The group, in another statement also said that nobody has the right to stop them from grazing openly.

According to the North East Chairman of MACBAN, Alhaji Mafindi Danburam, settling in a cattle colony is not their culture.
