Parents appeal to Governor to pay teachers

A parent, Mr Ajibulu Joshua, said the strike embarked upon by the teachers had caused setbacks for his children as they no longer read ‎their books.

Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state

Parents of children in state primary and secondary schools in Ekiti have appealed to the state Governor, Mr Ayo Fayose, to pay the outstanding salaries of teachers in the state.

In interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria‎ (NAN) in Ado-Ekiti on Friday, the parents expressed frustration over the indefinite strike embarked upon by the teachers.

Another parent and civil servant, Mrs Foluke Babajide, urged the state government to listen to the plea of the teachers and pay their salaries.

But Mrs Toyin Owolabi, a trader and parent, condemned the decision by the primary and secondary school teachers to go on strike.

She said her children had paid all their fees but were not benefiting from the payment because of the strike.

Owolabi, however, appealed to the state government to pay the teachers to enable the children to go back to school.
