Senator-elect refusing to leave home for extradition hearing

Kashamu is said to be demanding to see a warrant of arrest before surrendering to the officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) who are waiting to convey him to the Federal High Court.

Prince Buruji Kashamu

Senator-elect, Buruji Kashamu is stalling legal proceedings in his extradition hearing after refusing to leave his home for the court.

Kashamu is said to be demanding to see a warrant of arrest before surrendering to the officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) who are waiting to convey him to the Federal High Court.

The NDLEA officials invaded the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain’s Lekki, Lagos home on Saturday, May 23, in a bid to extradite him to the US to face drug charges.

They were however unable to carry out the arrest due to the absence of a warrant authorizing Kashamu’s arrest.

The Senator-elect’s lawyers are said to be awaiting his arrival at the court in order to challenge the actions of the NDLEA.

Meanwhile, some supporters of Kashamu have taken to the court premises to protest his detention.

Kashamu was indicted of drug dealing in Chicago in 1998 but has managed to evade capture until now.
