Why President is visiting France

According to a statement by presidential media aide, Femi Adesina, the Nigerian president is visiting France in a bid to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Nigeria and France in the areas of defense, security, trade and investments.

President Muhammadu Buhari will, today, September 14, 2015, embark on an official visit to France.

Buhari is expected to spend three days in Paris following an invitation by President Francois Hollande.

According to a statement by presidential media aide, Femi Adesina, the Nigerian president is visiting France in a bid to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Nigeria and France in the areas of defense, security, trade and investments.

“The president is responding to an invitation extended to him by president Hollande of France. Nigeria and France have been allies for a while. You have plenty of French companies doing business in Nigeria and vice versa. So, it’s an opportunity to strengthen the bonds of brotherliness,” Adesina said.

“The president will specifically be asking the French government to assist Nigeria in the area of intelligence and equipment, intelligence to use possibly in the recovery of the abducted Chibok girls and to also win the war against the insurgency conclusively,” he added.

Hollande and Buhari met earlier on the side-lines of the G7 summit in June and the French President has repeatedly promised his country’s support for Nigeria’s war against Boko Haram.
