Girl who escaped from terrorists not a Chibok girl – BBOG

The Presidency said, on Wednesday, May 17, that the girl, Mariam Mohammed-Isa was one of the Chibok girls.

Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari (centre) met the 82 rescued Chibok girls after their release in a prisoner swap deal

The Presidency said, on Wednesday, May 17, that the girl, Mariam Mohammed-Isa was one of the Chibok girls.

However, BBOG spokesperson, Sesugh Akume, said on Thursday, May 18, that the girl’s name is not on the group’s list of the abducted girls.

“We’ve carefully perused our list of missing #ChibokGirls but don’t seem to find the name of this latest returnee,” he said.

“We have also seen a tweet from the presidency confirming that she isn’t one of them as she is/was a JSS 1 student.

“Whether one of our Chibok girls or not, our joy and excitement is the same for everyone in captivity who regains their freedom. We look forward to all returning soon,” he added.

Laolu Akande, spokesman for Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, has confirmed that the girl is not one of the abducted Chibok girls.

The 276 girls were abducted on April 14, 2014, by Boko Haram insurgents.

However negotiations with the sect led to the release of 21 girls in October 2016 and another 82 in May 2017.
