First Lady sues for peace, religious tolerance in the world

Mrs. Buhari also urged participants to rise against hate speech, saying it was capable of inciting people and creating tension.

The wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, has urged women, youths, political, as well as religious leaders, to put more efforts toward achieving global peace and religious harmony.

The call is in a statement by Mrs Buhari’s Director of Information, Mr Suleiman Haruna in Abuja on Tuesday.

Haruna stated that the president’s wife made the call during the 3rd Annual Commemoration of World Alliance of Religions’ Peace (WARP) Summit held in Seoul, South Korea.

The summit was organised by Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL), an NGO, the UN Department of Public Information, in association with International Peace Youth Group (IPYG) and International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) with the theme “ Together for Peace as Messengers of Peace.”

Mrs Buhari, who was represented by wife of Sokoto State Governor, Hajiya Mairo Tambuwal, also urged participants to rise against hate speech, saying it was capable of inciting people and creating tension and violence in the society.

She said that the summit was aimed at establishing strong collaboration between governments and civil society organisations for the development of education and culture of peace and harmony among different religions.

She described the theme of 2017 event as apt and timely.

She added that “this summit couldn’t have come at a better time for Nigeria, especially when one looks at the long and hard fought battle against Boko Haram and the wave of destruction and displacement it left behind.”

The Chairperson and Chief Convener of World Alliance of Religions’ Peace (WARP), Mrs Nam Hee Kim, said “everyone has the right to freedom and happiness.’’

“Throughout the history of mankind, there has never been a time of true peace and harmony, instead, there have been disputes and wars which took away peoples’ right to freedom and peace.

“We will protect all youth with the love of mothers and bring peace and unity through that love."

She said the mission of International Women`s Peace Group was to raise awareness about peace and work with global female leaders and women organisations to give love and support in places that needed peace.

In attendance at the annual peace summit were political and religious leaders, heads of women and youth groups, civil society organisations and the media from around the world.
