How 'Occupy Nigeria' protest led Chef Eros to make N500,000 in one day

Every disappointment it's said, is a blessing

January 2012 will remain indelible in the minds of Nigerians for one thing - the Occupy Nigeria protests which saw commercial activities grounded for almost a week.

While many bemoaned the loss of income for that period, others rejoiced for the unsolicited holiday. But for a certain young man, that event would lead to a major mile stone that changed the course of his life.

In an exclusive chat with Pulse, Cookiejar's Chef Eros shared how the Occupy Nigeria protest led him to begin actively baking and subsequently establishing Cookiejar.

According to him, he had been stuck in his apartment with nothing to do as his DSTV has expired and the DVD player he had borrowed from neighbour, Dr Sid refused to play. With nothing going according to the plan, he decided; on his mother's advice, to bake some cookies and they turned out good.

After the end of the protest, he went about his normal business and when Valentine's day came around, he decided to bake a fresh batch of cookies to see if people would buy and that's when the magic happened.

"I made N500,000 in one day. I couldn't believe it. That was when I knew that there could be something in this for me" he explained.

From then on there was no looking back for the Miele brand ambassador. 2 years on, Cookiejar prides itself on providing some of the best desserts in town.
