There’s just so much uniqueness in Blackmagic, which has served as both a blessing and a curse. His speciality favours him with core listeners, and an adoring, lingering fanbase. But it also generally limits his ability to go pop.
Blackmagic brings on a new vibe with Seyi Shay, Badman on ‘Like this’
It’s amazing what this does to you after a few spins. It simply owns you, and that’s why you need to hear this.

A third studio album is on the way for the man, and he has begun the roll-out for the project; first comes the single, then cometh the artwork and interviews, and then cometh the hour of “Version 3.0”. ‘Like this’ is the first single off the work, and he chose a personal vibe, this time latching on to the new wave.
There’s Seyi Shay in the details, Big Bad with some lines, and Xela on the production. Blackmagic chases the allure of pop lyricism, with very little in form of imagery, but a lot to chime too, and a verse that tells half a story, and then dabbles in melodic narcissism. He sings, he raps and he gropes for his appreciation from a lady.
Seyi Shay’s inclusion appears basically cosmetic, as she handles the chorus alongside the song-lead. But listening deeper, she brings a vocal balance to the entire affair, plugging in all the loose spaces with adlibs, and making the chorus pop more. Without her, this would be less exciting.
Big Bad sneaks into this one, surprisingly snatching the baton on the second verse, and making the song his own for a moment. That counts for something.
The ‘Repete’ crooner promised fans a third album “Version 3.0” before the end of 2016 and his “Grand Theft Auto”-Esque single slides in beautifully as something to enjoy, roll it around your devices and turn up to it. It’s amazing what this does to you after a few spins. It simply owns you, and that’s why you need to hear this.
