Tyla releases her much-anticipated debut album, 'Tyla'

South African music star Tyla Laura Seethal, popularly known as Tyla, has released her much-anticipated debut music album, dubbed “Tyla.”

The 14-track music album bears the same name as the singer and depicts the sonorous nature of her global music brand, which quickly gained traction barely a year after the official launch of her professional music career in 2023 and catapulted her into the spotlight, making her a contemporary music icon and a force to reckon with in the industry.

As promised, the iconic album features a list of notable music stars across various countries and genres, including; Kelvin Momo, Tems, Gunna, Skillibeng, Becky G, and Travis Scott, with “Water” as the lead single. Little wonder the South African music gem described the project as “experimental” when she told the media that her compilation would be a blend of various music genres.

Tyla’s delivery on the new project is a testament to her unmatched musical dexterity, which the world has been gracefully exposed to within the last year. Her unmistakable vocal strength continually puts fans in awe as she stylishly floats them over the blended beats, with production credits to Corey Marlon, Lindsay Keay, Ebenezer Maxwell, Sammy Soso, and Sir Nolan.

Recall that the album’s lead single, "Water," recently earned the singer a Grammy nomination and an eventual victory at the 66th annual Grammy Awards, which were held at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on February 24, 2024. Tyla was also recently celebrated after she clinched the title of highest-charting African female solo artist on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This was after “Water” reportedly skyrocketed to number 14 on the chat early this week.

Indeed, Tyla must have been highly selective in her choice of artists for her debut studio album. This is about the quality of delivery each guest's appearance made on the various tracks in which they have featured.

While the 22-year-old had a feel of Kelvin Momo’s best self in the 40-second intro, Tems delivered a perfect rendition on the fifth track, titled “No. 1.” Little wonder she finds herself on the list of Africans credited with having won a Grammy.

In a similar vein, Gunna and Skillibeng both killed their verses on the 9th track, dubbed "Jump,” while Becky G gave an amazing and prolific delivery crowned with a flare of excellence on the eleventh track, titled “On My Body.”

Tyla had previously acknowledged Travis Scott’s perfect touch of trap music on the “Water” remix, which sits at the eleventh number and was also released before the full album release.

Other tracks on the album include “Safer” (track 2), “Water,” the lead single on track 3, “Truth or Dare” (4), “Breathe Me” (6), and “Butterflies” (7), as well as “On and On” (8), “ART” (10), “Priorities” (12), and “To Last” (13).

Tyla’s overall performance on the new album records a historic feat for her career while setting a pace for her contemporaries and perhaps competitors.
