“The Revenant” pulled in $14.3 million as it opened wide on Friday, putting it on track for a weekend haul of $37 million.

In 1823, fur trapper Hugh Glass (DiCaprio) is mauled by a bear while hunting in what will become the Dakota Territory.

His companions rob him, murder his young half-Native American son, and leave him to die, but he survives and sets out on a 200 mile trek to get revenge on the men who betrayed him and find the man (Hardy) who killed his son.

While, “Force Awakens,” now in its fourth weekend of play, took in $10.7 million on Friday, on the road to a three-day total north of $36 million.

Although undefined is presently the highest-grossing film in U.S. history and also just smashed the highest opening record in China
