Exciting homegrown premieres as channel turns 3

Birthdays are a time for reflection. It’s hard to believe it’s been almost 3 years since we first hit the big red button to ‘Go Live’.

EbonyLife TV

EbonyLife TV was started by Nigerian media-mogul, Mo Abudu as a venture with the mantra 'To portray an Africa that we know and aspire to, to tell our own stories.'

The channel and all its shows were developed in Nigeria by a passionate team and since launching from Tinapa Studios in Calabar on July 1, 2013, we have created close to 3000 hours of glossy, magical content, distributing to 49 African countries, including South Africa, Southern Africa and recently opened studios in Lagos.

The channel is also distributed worldwide serving viewers in the UK on both Talk Talk TV and Lebara Play; as well as viewers in Canada via the Ethnic Channels Group, while our VOD platforms are also available outside of Africa.

In 2014, we started EbonyLife Films which completed its first feature film titled ‘Fifty’, directed by Biyi Bandele and was released globally in the last quarter of 2015. ‘Fifty’ received many accolades including, "the biggest ever opening weekend for a Nigerian film".

In celebration of our third birthday, we bring you a month filled with exciting new premiers.

Headlining this is ‘The Governor’, a new political drama about a female Nigerian governor, starring Caroline Chikezie as its lead.

Men’s Corner’ is an unhinged, unrestricted talk show for men, strictly for late night viewing, hosted by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Andrew Blaze and Mazino Appeal.

For lovers of web series, we premiere ‘On the Real’, a coming-of-age drama series about Nigerian reality stars who juggle their on-screen lives and their real life reality as 20-something year olds.

As we’ve always prided ourselves in launching new talent and giving people a break in the industry, we launch another talent series, ‘First Stars’, a reality contest for up-and-coming filmmakers.

Until then…it’s never business as usual as we continue to pour passion into telling the authentic, global African story with a difference, for you, our esteemed viewers.

From the EbonyLife TV family, we say a big thank you; stay tuned as we continue to create quality programming.
