Illbliss’ rant made me laugh

Rapper Illbliss is underlines the fact that celebrities are human beings too who have to think deeply before they react.

I have never seen Illbliss lose it like that. When a ‘fan’ criticized his style of rapping, Illbliss rained hell on him. “May a thousand bats descend and rape your mother you bastard! Are you well formed? Put out a record and make it work?” Phew, that is heavy. A thousand bats? That is crazy. Illbliss went on to say other crazier things to the fan.

After his moment of madness, Illbliss apologized to his fan. “I apologize for the wrong choice of words. They weren't proper things to say at all. You are actually entitled to your opinion.” He later released a lengthy apology on Instagram this morning.

“My reaction on Twitter yesterday shocked a lot of people. The choice of Words were wrong But A lot of abusive stalking had gone on for a while before that, which also involved my mother and family.. If you know iLLY well, you would know that reaction was Different.. Apologies tendered. I remain a role model and an exemplary artiste BUT be mindful of the words you say to artists just to get their attention or reaction.. We are public Figures and must never React, (ironically)Now can we get back to the Music... Bless” wrote the rapper.

Well after being surprised by Illbliss’ outburst I laughed hard because it was funny. I have never seen Illbliss lose his cool before. I thought he was made of ice. One thing I realized after the whole episode is that creative people are very emotional and protective about their art. We have to take this fact into consideration. No creative person likes to be criticized especially from someone who doesn’t have the credentials to do so.

Over the past week we have witnessed celebrities lash out publicly because the quality of their craft was called into question. Artistes feel sensitive about their works. It is understandable. However, because it is understandable doesn’t make it right.

As long as you are a public figure people will always throw shots at you. That however should not distract you from doing what you are meant to do. It’s hard not to react on social media because we are human beings at the end of the day.

What I tell people is that if you are angry throw away your phone. It is easy to rant on social media when you are angry. Make sure your phone is far from you when you are angry. Take a stroll and think about things. By the time you  come back, you won’t be that mad about it.

Celebrities should take this approach too. People will always make you angry but you have the opportunity to calm down and prove them wrong.
