Peter Okoye, AY, Osita Iheme announce that they are safe

As Turkish military forces and civilians clashed on the streets of Istanbul, Turkey during a failed coup attempt, Peter Okoye, AY, Osita Iheme were in the country for a charity event.

The charity football match was meant to feature football stars such as Neymar, Luis Suarez, Diego MaradonaEden HazardDidier Drogba and Arda Turan. Unfortunately due to the coup attempt most of the football stars did not show up.  Lionel Messi who was scheduled to appear canceled his trip.

While most football stars couldn't make it Nigerian football legends Austin 'Jay Jay' Okocha and Nwankwo Kanu made it. Along with Peter Okoye, AY and Osita Iheme they were in the country when the coup attempt happened.

On Saturday, July 16, 2016 both AY and Osita Iheme released statements saying that they were fine and safe in Turkey.

"Thank you for all the love and concern from back home. We are fine where we are in Turkey. Keep praying for us and Turkey" AY wrote on his Instagram page as he shared a photo of him with Eto'o. On Twitter Osita Iheme said "We are very safe here. Thanks a lot."

While Eto'o's  charity match was postponed the charity dinner still went on as planned on Friday, July 15, 2016. Past and present football stars like Eden Hazard, Didier Drogba, Carlos Puyol,  Michael Essien, Kolo Toure and others.

"Last Night was epic!!! Just want to really appreciate family friends and fans for the love and care. We are fine and safe here in Turkey and hopefully we expect everything to get back to normal" wrote Peter Okoye on his Instagram page as he shared footage of the charity dinner.

In January 2016, Samuel Eto'o hosted Peter Okoye in Antalaya a few days after the pop star launched his football management agency P-Classic Football Management.

265 have died in the Turkey coup attempt which was unsuccessful.
