George Clooney To Direct New Film On British Phone Hacking Scandal

Clooney said the film will have everything, "all the elements — lying, corruption, blackmail — at the highest levels of government by the biggest newspaper in London."

In the heat of a major hacking scandal, Sony Pictures has announced that George Clooney will co-produce and directi a new film about hacking titled, "Hack Attack". The film will be based on reporter, Nick Davies' book about British phone hacking scandal.

The Oscar winner who is also a son of a journalist, reportedly called Davies "a brave and stubborn reporter and said it was "an honor to put his book to film."

In a statement on Wednesday, Clooney said the film will have everything, "all the elements — lying, corruption, blackmail — at the highest levels of government by the biggest newspaper in London."

For more than six years, Davies investigated the Rupert Murdock's News Corp. and subsidiary News International. His book details widespread hacking of voice mail of public officials, celebrities and ordinary citizens.

The scandal which drew widespread attention, also sent tremors through British politics.

The movie starts shooting next year but there are no indications if the film will also include the recent hacking of celebrities' phone - prescisely iPhones.
