Seven years after living as the wife of Hip Hop mogul, Jay Z, details of Beyonce's relationship with ex-boyfriend, Lyndall Locke before and after meeting Jay has hit town.
Arguably one of the world's most powerful female in music and entertainment, the highlights of Beyonce's relationship with Locke has been revealed by the ex-boyfriend, who spoke fondly of how he enjoyed been with Blue Ivy's mum.
According to Locke, he started dating Beyoncé when she was just 12 years old.
In an exclusive interview with Mail on Sunday, here are some of the highlights of their relationship.
1. Beyonce had her first kiss at age 13
“Let me tell you, there was no messing with Big Mac (Mathew ‘Big Mac’ Knowles). He gave me the third degree about who I was and what my intentions were. He gave me the talk about “not messing anything up.
“We shared our first kiss at a Brian McKnight concert when Bey was 13. She was a little southern belle. She was an awesome kisser. We would hang out and do normal boyfriend-girlfriend things, although I was never allowed to stay over," Locke disclosed.
"I’ve never been a liar. I told her the truth which is that I lost my virginity to a girl from church. She cried and hung up on me," Locke explained.
3. Beyonce has always been focused!
Locke said though Beyoncé was 12 when they met, she was ‘no ordinary kid’. He recalled that she lived and breathed her career as she would belt out songs while running and whenever he asked, she would simply say, ‘Because Daddy told me it would increase my breath control and lung capacity,’ she replied. ‘I need to be able to perform onstage for hours when I become a star.’
4. The Drift
By 1998 when Destiny’s Child blew up, Locke says, “I wasn’t sure where I was going. I remember Mathew asking me what my goals were. Beyoncé’s career was taking off, but I was still the small-town kid. She was promoting Destiny Child’s second album and I was back home smoking weed. I didn’t want that to somehow reflect badly on her. She was all about image and career, while I was directionless and having fun. Once they started to hit big it was obvious she was changing. She became aloof. I told her she was becoming a whole new kind of person and she looked at me and said, “I am.”
5. The embarrassment
Locke further disclosed that Beyoncé once secured backstage passes to see Janet Jackson perform in LA in 2000 and took Lyndall along. Explaining, Locke says “I jabbered on to Janet, I was nervous”, ‘Janet said, “You remind me of one of my nephews” and I said, “Well, your nephew must be pretty awesome!”
“Beyoncé huddled with her cousin Angie, and Angie came over and escorted me out. That hurt. It cut deep. I was 20, I was excited to meet Janet Jackson, but they had an image to protect. It was business for them. I wasn’t cool.”
“I filled a cup with whisky in a limo taking Beyoncé to a Destiny’s Child concert in LA. ‘Mathew came up to me backstage and said, “That’s not cool. How do you think that makes Beyoncé look? If you don’t pull it together and get a real career she’ll be gone. Beyoncé needs to be with someone who has it going on.”’
