With the strong growth of the Internet online news publications also get into the fun by posting fake new articles that would reel readers in only for them to get the sucker punch- happy April fool’s day- at the end of the news story.

Celebrities worldwide also join in on the humour and jokes. Over the years several celebrities have pulled off elaborate April Fools' Day pranks.

Global pop star Rihanna pulled a big prank on talk show host Jimmy Kimmel. At 1a.m Riri showed up to Kimmel’s home, entered his bedroom and performed her hit song ‘B*tch Better Have My Money’ complete with stage lights, dancers and fake money.

Jimmy Kimmel who was in a daze and half asleep when Rihanna was performing for him. He later said that he thought that there was a spaceship in his room when Rihanna was performing.

In 2015 British singer Sam Smith pulled one of the best pranks ever. The Grammy award winning gay act announced to his millions of followers on Twitter that he was “straight.” Gasp! Imagine all the heartbreaks from his male followers and male fans.

After an hour which must have been agonizing to his fans he later came back online and wished everyone a Happy April Fools’ Day.

Hollywood actor James Franco who is always the perpetual prankster fooled a lot of people last year when he posted a picture of actress/singer Selena Gomez with a baby and said “Selena and I had a baby, it was born during Sprang Break.” This freaked out a lot of people especially fans of Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez.

Speaking of Justin Bieber, millions of the Canadian’s fans were crying with joy when the hashtag #JustinYourAlbumLeaked started trending on Twitter. It also came with a fake track list and album cover. The Bieber fans were so excited just to find out at the end of the day that it was a hoax.

Lol! Who says celebrities don’t have fun to. It would even be funnier if Nigerian celebrities do this regularly. We are still waiting for a Nigerian celebrity to pull a crazy stunt today.
