A Greek court on Thursday 21 July, 2016, sentenced eight Turkish soldiers to two months in prison.

Their sentences however was suspended, but they are being held in custody while authorities review their asylum requests.

The soldiers who had fled to Greece aboard a helicopter after a failed coup attempt, were charged with illegally entering the country.
The soldiers which include six pilots and two engineers all received the same sentence but the pilot was acquitted of the additional charge of violating flight regulations.

Turkey has requested for extradition of the soldiers, so they can be tried for their participation in Friday's coup attempt.
