2 students fall and die trying to take a selfie at waterfall

The men lost their balance and fell into the water.

This is one of hundreds of cases from around the world where tourists died while trying to capture an attractive natural place in a photo.

According to The Mirror, two students from the University of Dundee, 26-year-old Jitendranath Karuturi and 22-year-old Chanhakya Bolisetti, died during a trip to Scotland. The men lost their lives while trekking to the Linn of Tummel Falls near Pitlochry.

According to local media, the men died while taking selfies at the waterfall. At one point they lost their balance and fell into the water. Their bodies were recovered on Wednesday evening by emergency services.

The police are investigating the tragedy to determine all the circumstances. However, according to The Mirror, at the moment there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances related to the men's deaths, and many factors point to an unfortunate accident.

This is just one of many unfortunate incidents where someone loses their life while trying to take a photo in an interesting place. According to The Washington Post, between 2008 and 2021, 379 people around the world died trying to take a selfie.

Most cases occurred in India, followed by Russia, the USA and Pakistan, but accidents also occurred in, among others, in Spain, Indonesia, Mexico , New Zealand and the United Kingdom . Some of them concerned car accidents and photos taken next to passing trains, but many of the accidents involved tourists.

In 2014, a Polish tourist died while trying to take a selfie at the Tirana Bridge in Seville. A year later, seven people drowned in Lake Mangrul in India after their boat capsized while they were posing for a group photo.

In 2017, a South Korean tourist died after falling off a cliff at Seaford Head Reserve as she jumped for a photo. Two similar cases also took place in the USA in 2018. In turn, a man who fell into the Vesuvius volcano in 2022 while trying to pose for a one-of-a-kind photo was saved.
