The pair, who include a top member of President Barack Obama's protective detail are believed to have been drinking on the job and have been reassigned to non-supervisory, non-operational assignments following the embarrassing incident, CNN reports.
The officers were allowed to go home after a supervisor on duty overruled on-duty law enforcement who wanted to arrest the agents and conduct sobriety tests.
President Obama is reportedly aware of the incident and supports Secret Service Director Joe Clancy's decision to turn the investigation over to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Inspector General for a thorough review.
The incident adds to growing concerns about the Secret Service and their competence especially following an incident where an intruder with a knife broke into the white house.
