'Mua'zu was not forced to resign' - PDP Acting Chairman says

The acting Chairman said Mua'zu's resignation and that of the BOT Chairman's, Tony Anenih was a mere coincidence.

The Acting Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus, has said that the party’s former leader, Adamu Mua’zu, was not forced to resign from his position.

Secondus said this while speaking to State House correspondents after meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan at the Presidential Villa on Thursday, May 21.

On the 'coincidence' of the resignation of Mua'zu and the party's Board of Trustee (BOT) Chairman, Chief Tony Anenih, Secondus said, “Sometimes it happens that way. Nobody forced them to go.”

He also said other members of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) will not resign, stating that there is no reason for any of the remaining NWC members to resign as they all have their tenures still running.

“You know that is not right, it is unconstitutional, because the chairman did that voluntarily, and the BoT Chairman also did that voluntarily. Some of the others have tenures, at the end of our tenure if we are re-elected, fine, if not that is the right thing to do,” he said.

Mua’zu tendered his resignation letter on Wednesday, May 20, as well as Anenih.

It will be recalled that shortly after PDP’s massive loss in the March 28 and April 11 general elections, the party leaders and some members had pressured Mua’zu and other members of the NWC to resign from their position, accusing them of betrayal.
