The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reportedly fallen on hard financial times, reports say.

According to Punch, the PDP is broke and as such has been forced to slash its workers’ salaries by 35 per cent.

The move was reportedly made necessary due to the party’s decreasing income.

“We have received 65 per cent of our normal salaries for the month of August due to the claim by the NWC members that the party is broke. We can as well attest to the fact that the party is broke because all what we made during the elections had been squandered,” one worker told Punch.

“Now, it is not that we are happy to have received the salary cut, but we all agreed that instead of them sacking us, let’s see what we could do with the salary cut,” the worker added.

The leadership of the PDP had earlier announced its downsizing plans but the move was met with protests by the workers who accused the National Working Committee of squandering N12 billion in nine months.

11 billion of the money was supposedly realizedfrom the sale of nomination forms while another N1 billion was gotten from the sale of delegates’ forms.

In addressing the crisis, former Akwa Ibom State Governor and current Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio urged the workers to remember that the party could ‘no longer run to the Villa for cash.’
