Bye-election commences peacefully

Four political parties, namely APC, PDP, NCP and ACD, fielded candidates to contest in the election. .

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the bye-election is being conducted to fill the vacancy created by the appointment of Hajiya Khadijah Bukar Ibrahim as minister in the federal cabinet.

NAN reports that electoral officers arrived at the polling units before 8.00 a.m.

Modu Musa electoral officer, Ajari polling unit, said everything was going on according to plans.

``We have adequate election materials and security personnel; party agents too are at polling units.

``The turnout initially was low but it has improved now’’ he said.

Some electorate interviewed commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security operatives and party supporters for the smooth and peaceful conduct of the election.

The Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in the state also commended political parties, candidates and supporters for their peaceful conduct during the election.

Alhaji Umar Kukuri, Yobe IPAC Chairman, said the peaceful conduct was heartwarming, just as the timely arrival of electoral officers and materials was impressive.
