Lawmakers decry non-execution of constituency projects

Baba-Hassan, who led the discussion, said that the non-execution of constituency projects had become a thing of concern.

Plateau Governor Simon Lalong

The lawmakers, at a special plenary to mark the end of the first half of the 8th Assembly, regretted that no constituency project had been executed “in the last two years”.

“This is our second year and nothing has been said about constituency project; this is not healthy for us. I have been a member of this House since 2007; this is the worst scenario,” Ibrahim Baba-Hassan (APC/Jos North) said.

“I served in both the 6th and 7th Assembly; execution of constituency projects has been a trend over the years. This trend must be followed.

“Constituency projects gave our constituents the confidence to vote some of us back to the House.

“This is our second year in the 8th Assembly and nothing has been said about constituency projects; we cannot continue like this,” he said.

He, however, urged Plateau residents to exercise patience, promising that the House would ensure that resources accruing to the state were fairly shared.

Mr Peter Ibrahim (PDP, Barkin-Ladi), in his contribution, urged government to initiate constituency projects so as to “save lawmakers from constant harassment by constituents”.

“Government must take the issue of constituency projects seriously; our people expect a lot from us and we can’t afford to fall below expectation.

“This is something that has been the practise over time; we have no excuse to give the electorate because it has been the trend over the years.

“This government must treat this issue with utmost urgency,” he said.
